Inequalities Containing Brackets

Solve the inequality by removing the brackets and applying the rules learned in the previous sections.

Example 32

Solve 3(2x - 4) + 6 > 18 + 2x for x.

Solution:

Remove the brackets by using the Distributive Law. Simplify the inequality, subtract 2x from both sides, add 6 to both sides and divide both sides by 4 to x > 6.

Therefore, the solution set is {x : x > 6}.
