Squares

The square of a number is obtained by multiplying that number by itself.


Example 1

Find the square of :

a.  2
b.  4
c.  6

The square of any real number is positive.

Properties of Squares

Consider the squares of numbers greater than 1.

Clearly, the squared value of a number greater than 1 is much greater than the number being squared.


In general:


Consider the squares of fractional numbers, i.e. the numbers that are between 0 and 1.

Clearly, the squared value of a fractional number is much less than the number being squared.
